About Us

The land on which the current Sengekontacket Community is located was originally occupied by Wampanoag Indians. The community abuts the Major’s Cove arm of Sengekontacket Pond.  Early English versions of the Indian name were Sanchekontackett.
It also contains a small kettle pond, which has had several names over the years.  The original  Indian name of this pond may have been Quontaog, Quanttapog, or Quantipog. It is shown on USGS maps as “Fresh Pond”, but it is commonly known today as “Wiggy’s  Pond”, named for Rollo Wigglesworth, a former owner, who harvested ice on this pond.

Originally farmland, once owned by the Norton Family in the late 1800s, the land was originally subdivided by Vinland Properties Corporation in March 1971,  and subsequently developed with 63 individual home lots and 24 condominiums units.

Today, only one lot remains undeveloped.   Many original vacation homes have been reconstructed into fine year-around homes.
